TMJ
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jawbone to your skull. TMJ issues can cause pain in the jaw, face or around the ear. Some people may also notice a clicking or grating sound when chewing.
What causes a TMJ?
It’s not always clear what causes a TMJ injury. TMJ disorders may be caused by teeth grinding, arthritis or jaw injury. As with the spine, the jaw has a shock-absorbing disc which can be improperly aligned or damaged over time causing pain.
