Shoulder pain can come from muscles, ligaments or tenders around the shoulder joint or from the shoulder joint itself. If the pain is coming from the joint or surrounding tissues, it will typically get worse with movement. If not, it might also be referred pain related to other conditions.

What causes shoulder pain?

Shoulder pain can be caused by an injury such as a sprain, tendinitis or a torn rotator cuff. Or shoulder pain might also be caused by inflammation from bursitis or arthritis. It’s also possible that shoulder pain may be caused by a compression of the nerves that go to the shoulder.
